This beautiful glass and metal pyramid lies at the centre of the Louvre Palace and it serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum, which is home to the world's most famous painting, The Mona Lisa. The pyramid was designed by the Chinese architect Ieoh Ming Pei - who goes by the name I. M. Pei - and it is 21.6 metres tall (71 feet). It was commissioned in 1984 by the French President François Mitterrand to solve the problem of the Louvre’s original main entrance, which could no longer cope with its large number of visitors
