These padlocks which couples used to symbolise their love for each other were removed from the Pont des Arts bridge in May 2015. Loved-up tourists and Parisians would write their names on padlocks, throw the keys into the River Seine and attach the locks to the wire fencing on the bridge, causing sections of the fencing to crumble under the weight. Fun Fact: There were over 700,000 padlocks attached to the bridge, with an estimated combined weight equal to that of 20 elephants
